Hotline consists of two parts, one is the client, which connects to a remote server, and a server which provides information to the client. When used with the Hotline server, this client allows users to chat, transfer files, and read news on an Internet / intranet like service. This should not be confused with a client that performs FTP, IRC, or NNTP functions, as they are not supported by Hotline. This is a client/server model designed for the Mac OS, to take advantage of parts of the OS that Unix servers normally do not. Hotline Server is based on the intranet theme, but it works a bit differently than standard Web servers in that it requires a specific client software. Features of this server include chatting, news, and file distribution. Unfortunately, this program has recently become a commercial application and therefore these are all demos which disconnect after 15 minutes.
